Description de la formation

The Master of Science in Sustainable Management and Technology (MSc SMT) aims to equip the entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs of the future with the knowledge and skills that will enable them to lead the transition to a more sustainable, environmentally friendly and inclusive economy, while harnessing the power of technology.

Organisation des études 

SMT program structure:

  • Technology (27 ECTS)
  • Economics & management (24 ECTS)
  • Transferable skills (9 ECTS)
  • Elective courses (14 ECTS) : The elective courses must be chosen among a list of courses in technology, economics & management topics.
  • Leadership competencies – development & integration (6 ECTS) : The integration week aims at improving students’ effectiveness in three directions: personal, group and organizational effectiveness.
  • Transformative projects (10 ECTS) : They aim at solving applied, real-life interdisciplinary issues in the fields of technology, management, and sustainability. Teams of 3-4 students from different disciplines work together on a topic provided by a company with the objective to propose new perspectives or solutions that can have the potential to transform an industry or societal practices.
  • Master Project : based on an Internship in Industry (30 ECTS). The Master project will be undertaken with a supervisor affiliated to one of the three institutions (UNIL-HEC, IMD or EPFL).

The master's degree represents the second university degree after the bachelor's degree and is generally equivalent to the acquisition of 90-120 ECTS credits.

1 ECTS credit corresponds to approximately 25-30 hours of work.

Admission

Conditions d’admission

  • EPFL Bachelor’s degrees obtained in a discipline related to science, architecture or engineering, or
  • Bachelor’s degrees obtained in the same fields but from another institution, accompanied by excellent academic records

AND

  • For all applications, skills in quantitative methods as well as a solid knowledge in statistics, programming, machine learning, and/or systems thinking and /or system modelling are required.

The acquisition of additional credits to fill any gaps may be required.

Meeting all of these criteria is no guarantee of admission.

Courses are given on the EPFL and UNIL campus. In addition, a number of activities will are organized on the IMD campus.

The standard duration of the Master’s program (120 ECTS credits) is 4 semesters, with a maximum duration of 8 semesters. An extension may be granted for valid reasons.
